Hi everyone. You can just call me Uncle David from now on, because Valeska (my brother’s wife) gave birth to a baby girl yesterday (May 4th). Here is a reproduction of my Mom’s (and Dad’s, but not sure how much he wrote) email to the family:
——————–
Dear Friends and Family,
Yahoo!!! Valeska delivered a beautiful baby girl at 11:11PM tonight (May 4th). They both are doing fine. The baby is truly beautiful with pale skin and pink cheeks and long eyelashes and wisps of short black hair. Everyone who saw her agreed that she isn’t just pretty, she’s beautiful. All appears to be well. We do not as yet know the baby’s weight because she had not been taken to the nursery yet. I would estimate it’s about 7 and a half pounds. Is that around 3 and a half kilos?
Valeska went to the hospital at about 3:15PM because her “water broke”. She had productive labor but finally had to have a delivery assisted by a suction device. Nowadays the labor and the delivery occur in the same large room which has a plasma TV and couches and things. Valeska’s mother, Patricia, and Phil were there for the delivery. The rest of us (Eduardo, Rory, Lucas, Claudio, Lara - one of the bridesmaids -, Michael Annie, Chuck and I) were in a family waiting area. A little after 11PM Patricia came into the family area with her hands over her head like a soccer goal had been scored and exclaimed, “Eleven eleven!!” Luckily that was the TIME of delivery, not the baby’s weight. All of us got to see and hold the baby before it had even been weighed. Phil and Valeska are tired but very happy. Pictures will follow tomorrow.
Love,
Nancy and Chuck

Of course, you know you will see those pictures here before any other news source in the country, I can assure of that my friend. Also, you’ll notice that my Mom forgot to include the name of the baby, so for now, I’ll just call her, ‘baby’. Welcome to the world, baby.
